Romans VII

Started thinking about this song in my math class a couple weeks ago. What else is there to do in a four-hour Saturday morning lecture class, right? Couldn't remember the name of it and nearly ripped out all my hair trying to find it online. You'd think with ALL the "Keith Green Lyrics" sites out there, I would have had better resources to work with. So I basically just spent the past hour listening to various CDs of his in desperate search of this one song. Bottom line is I found it, and now I be quite pleased. Tis a grand song. Enjoy...
Romans VII
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The very things I hate, I end up doing
The things I want to do, I just don't do
Lord, it seems so sad, why am I so bad?
When in my heart I only want to be like You
~*~*~
The very ones I love, I end up hurting
The ones I want to help, I pass right by
Now I want to be finally set free
The grace You've shown, the love I've known
Please let it shine through me
~*~*~
I want to love them the way You do
I want to serve them by serving You
~*~*~
Lord, how I know Your tender heart must be broken
By all those unkept promises I've made
The question still prevails, please take away the doubt
About how You forgive and still You live
Inside me when I fail
~*~*~
I want to love them all the way You do
I want to serve them by serving You
I want to be like You, Jesus I do

Not familiar with Keith Green or his music, but those are very good lyrics. Makes me want to read through the whole book of Psalms again. Is it just me, or is it just me who comments on your blog? You need to find more online friends ;-P

Oh man, Keith Green is my hero! He got signed as a rock star at a young age, and became locked into the emptiness of a life of sex drugs and freaky religions before finding Christ as a young adult. He then spent the final seven years of his life in complete dedication to serving God and others through his music, even when it was convicting and sometimes offensive to hear such blunt and honest Biblical truth. I could go on and on about him, because I think he has a BEAUTIFUL testimony...but I won't. I'll have to send you some of his songs sometime, and let you hear for yourself.

Ha, yeah. You're probably right. I am very picky with my silly blogs though. I don't know why. Most the time I'd rather a total stranger read something I've written than someone I actually know. So the list of those who reads is short, and comments even shorter. ;-)

"Rather a total stranger"... I think I can understand that. I think a lot of information about me is safer in the hands of total strangers than people I know personally, because the latter group is more likely to tell me how sorry they feel for me or try to "fix" my problems, neither of which would really help me at all. But it can be cathartic sometimes to tell a secret to a bunch of strangers who don't necessarily care, just so you don't feel like it's only your cross to bear. I hope that made sense.

Anyway, yeah, next time we go hiking or something you should show me some Keith Green, he sounds like a cool guy.

No, you are absolutely right. I love feedback and knowing that maybe I'm not the only one dealing with something, but there is such a vulnerability that comes with actually having to be in close contact with those who know I'm weak. Plus I tend to assume that the people I love won't really care. And somehow I can just take a bunch of strangers not caring a lot better.

Beware: I tend to go overboard sometimes when folks show even a tiny amount of interest in Keith Green. And I have a feeling you will appreciate it more than most of my friends. So don't be surprised if I end up loaning you four CDs and a couple books. Yes, I'm already making plans. ;-)
